The New Zealand Law Society is now investigating complaints made about anti-vaccine lawyer Sue Grey following several complaints. The society advised them by letter in November 2021 that the standards committee had “resolved of its own motion to investigate general concerns raised around Ms Grey’s activities”.
This follows the open letter to Sue Grey from FACT Aotearoa, calling for her and other misinformation spreaders to stop using private citizens information to further their anti-vaccine agenda in September of 2021. Following our open letter, with no cessation, FACT Aotearoa made a formal complaint to the Law Society, citing Grey’s breach of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act (Lawyers: Conduct and Client Care) Rules 2008, which state “a lawyer must not engage in conduct that tends to bring the profession into disrepute”.
While we are glad to see proceedings going ahead, we’re concerned that the society’s investigation is of “general concerns” rather than addressing specific complaints, including Grey’s comments about the death of the Auckland teen.
